Kansas deserves thoughtful public discussion grounded in facts, context, and a genuine interest in good government.

Every day, decisions made in Washington, Topeka, county courthouses, city halls, school boards, and state and federal agencies shape the lives of Kansans. Those decisions affect taxes, healthcare, education, infrastructure, public safety, and economic opportunity. Yet most people have limited time to read legislative bills, budget documents, committee testimony, and government reports.

The Informed Kansan was created to make those issues more accessible.

This publication will examine the policies and decisions that influence life in Kansas. Some articles will explain proposed legislation. Others will explore state and local budgets, healthcare policy, education, or economic development. Whenever possible, the discussion will begin with primary sources and publicly available data.

My professional background is in healthcare. I am a practicing podiatrist, and my work has provided a close view of how public policy reaches individual patients, families, and communities. Those experiences have strengthened my interest in the broader questions of governance, fiscal responsibility, and public administration. I am a systems thinker. As a trained surgeon, I have a keen understanding of downstream consequences.

Readers should expect careful analysis, clear writing, and respect for differing viewpoints. I plan to shed light rather than heat.

Kansas has no shortage of important issues to discuss. Property taxes, healthcare access, workforce development, education, water resources, economic growth, and the effectiveness of state government all deserve careful attention. My hope is that this publication contributes something useful to those conversations.
